Cadence Setup and Tutorials
for ECE310 and ECE311 students

Welcome to the home page of the Cadence Users Group at University of Idaho. Students obtain practical experience in advanced electronics design using state-of-the-art CAD tools, computing and laboratory facilities.

The Cadence® EDA tools are used by students taking several ECE courses and by research projects. We utilize the Custom IC and Verification tools provided by Cadence®.

Read rest of this page before going through the setup and tutorial steps.

1. Setup UI VPN Connection [Handout] [Video]

2. Setup X2Go X-Window Client  [Handout]
    * We use ContOS 7.0 Linux server
    *
Our class server is ece-ece310.ece.uidaho.edu
    * Also use MATE desktop environment
    * Cadence version on ece310 server is 6.1.7

3. Cadence schematic capture and simulation tutorials. Watch following videos if you are new to Cadence tools.
*Important Note: You may observe slight difference between the Cadence interfaces shown in the videos and the setup in ece310  server, because the videos were recorded using the Cadence version 6.1.5.

** Remote/EO/off-campus students who have valid UI credentials have to install UI-VPN client first to access UI network following {Step 1} above. Then install X2Go on their local machine to access the Cadence tools following {Step 2} above.

** All ECE Lab computers have X2Go Client installed, thus you do not need to follow {Step 1 or 2} if you are using ECE computers.

** On-campus students who use personal computer do not need to install VPN client following {Step 1}, but has to install X2Go client on their own PC/notebook following {Step 2}.
